What To Expect...

A warm welcome.

We are a friendly congregation and we love to have visitors.

A reverent atmosphere.

"God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him" (Psalm 89:7). You will not have to fear bieng in a worship service that is lighthearted. Our worship is for our edification and the praise of God, not for fun.

Biblical worship.

We do in worship what the first Christians did. In passages like Acts 20:7, I Corinthians 11:20-34, I Corinthians 14:15, 23-40, and I Corinthians 16:1-2 we find them singing, praying, partaking of the Lord's Supper, giving, and preaching. They did these things under the authority of the apostles of Christ, and we respect and follow these biblical commandments and examples today.

Avoidance of extremes.

There are matters of judgment and each congregation is at liberty to take care of its own affairs. For instance, a church may send aid to an orphan home or individual Christians may care for orphans. This is a judgment call. In matters of Bible teaching, however, we are not to deviate. It is a serious thing to set aside what the Scriptures teach (Rev. 22:18-19; II John 9-11; Rom. 16:17-18).

An approachable leadership.

Our elders welcome any question you have about what is taught or done at Washington Street. In matters of opinion, we try to make the best decisions we can; in matters of doctrine, we believe in opening the bible to see the answers.
