2nd Kings

The history of Israel’ divided Kingdom continues
Recording events that for them not unusual
Worldliness and idolatry continues like a plague
In spite of all that God’s Prophets had to say

It is not surprisin that doom is on the horizon
Their condition to their enemies seemed very inviting
There is Assyria on one hand and Babylon on the other
Each eager and ready to capture and plunder

Meanwhile there were Kin s and Prophets of honor
Alon with the list olg others of dishonor
Prophet Elij ag Went to heaven with an angel in a chariot
Elisha parted the river Jordan by the Spirit outright

Jehu was the King who removed Baal Worship
But would not worship God himself
J eroboam brought Israel to a higher plain
But later Assyria invaded and made good their claim

Azariah became King of Judah at age sixteen
And served God with a life that was clean
But he failed to remove places of sacrifice and incense
And the Lord smote him with leprosy until his death

Hezekiah, a God-fearing King, destroyed Judah’s images
And kept the Lord commandments g1ven by Moses
Assyria tried to take Judah by bribery Without success
After three tries God sent Assyria home in distress

After Assyrians’ defeat, Babylon tries next
And leaves Jerusalem dismantled and in a mess
People of Judah were taken out of the Land
Only a remnant of them was left behind

ll Kings closes with an encouraging ending
King J ehoichin was released from his prison
And was given a throne beyond others in Babylon
And for the rest of his life was given provisions

---APPENDIX--
And it brings to mind, Daniel in the Lion’s Den
Who became famous in Babylon when relieved of the sin
We never know just how things may end
But we conclude, when it’s all over, God will win
