Exodus

“Exodus”-- how God rescued Israel from Egypt
400 years they had suffered in bondage
Now that their prayers were to be answered
A special leader was needed for the adventure

In Egypt a new Pharaoh was now at the till
Commanding that all male children be killed
Moses was born under those conditions
And was hidden under the river bulrushes

It was there Pharaoh’s daughter found him
Hearing him cry she fell in love with him
She was told about a woman for a nurse-maid
She agreed and Moses by his mother was raised

Moses was 40 when God spoke from a burning bush
That He needed a leader in whom He could trust
His people Israel must be taken from Egypt
And with them together they could achieve it

Moses was most reluctant to take on such a task
Even with signs and kind words to make him relax
Finally on one thing came to agree
Moses would command, his brother Aaron would speak

With God’s promise to be always on hand
Moses took his family with him to Egypt land
To deliver the plans to the Elders of Israel
And then to persuade Pharaoh to “give in”

When the Egyptians heard about Moses and the meetings
The people of Israel were unmercifully mistreated
Moses took God’s rod and caused a great famine
That caused Pharaoh to re-examine

Over and over Pharaoh refused, his heart was clogged
Finally after plagues of serpents and frogs
The waters to blood, the dust filled with lice
Pharaoh and the people realized this couldn’t last

The magicians had been so powerful ‘till now
Admitted that Israel had to go somehow
Moses’ final appeal Pharaoh quickly denied
Then God covered Egypt with swarms of flies

While Egypt was covered with flies and with stink
Israel, untouched, should make Pharaoh re-think
Still Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not relent
So God sent more troubles to make him repent

The animals of Egypt took Murrain and died
Boils broke out on them and Pharaoh still denied
Then came thunder, hail and fire along the ground
But Pharaoh still would not “come around”

Then came death to all Egypt’s first born
That caused the people to rise like a storm
They gave the Israelites gifts of all kinds
Saying, “Get out of the country and out of our minds”

The man of Israel formed a great army
And got Israel together for their long journey
By families they established a “Passover Feast”
To remember the first-born they were able to keep

But Pharaoh was not to be so easily pleased
His army followed Israel to the Red Sea
God divided the water and they crossed on dry land
The waters returned and Pharaoh’s army was drowned

Only three days from the sea in the wildemess
They began to murmur, their drinking water was bitter
God showed Moses a tree that would cure it
Moses threw it in the water and it sweetened it

Moses then preached a little sermon to them
That if they’d listened to God and obeyed Him
They would not have to suffer Egypt’s diseases
For God said, “I am the Lord that healeth thee”

15 days of the second month leaving Egypt
They were again murmuring and grieving
Wishing they had died along with the Egyptians
“Here we are to die with our stomachs empty”

God in His longsuffering made them a pledge
Each day they would eat flesh and eat bread
On the 6th day of the week enough for the Sabbath ,
And with this they could make it a habit.

Quail covered the camp in the evenings
And manna bread like dew in the mornings
One Sabbath some Went to gather the manna
God said, “How long must I put up with their manners?

Jethro brings Moses’ family to visit with him
While observing Moses’ duties it did him in
Jethro suggested an organizational plan
That Moses accepted with a relieved “glad hand”

At Mt Sinai God called Moses for a talk
And outlined 10 commandments the people to be taught
He specitied no gold or silver idols should be made
For God is a jealous God, to Him only they should pray

God gave Moses Laws in great length and breadth
That would guide them from birth unto death
Plans Were given for a Tabemacle of Worship
With many parts to serve that purpose

When Moses returned from off the mountain
What he saw in camp filled him with pain
A brazen calf had been built and an altar made
The people shouting “this God brought us this Way”

Moses appealed to God on their behalf
But God said, “No”, I ’m leaving,” He was so chafed
l’ll send an angel to help the rest of the Way
Perhaps the time will come they will behave

Moses completes matter pertaining to the Tabernacle
And it was indeed a glorious spectacle
Continuing their joumey they were led by “sight”
A cloud led them by day, a pillar of fire by night
