Joshua
Now with Joshua their leader first in command
All are ready to cross Jordan to the “Promised Land”
They are assured God would be with them
They in turn promised to obey Him
Two spies went to spy out the land
Rahab the harlot protected them
When it was over she requested a favor
That when they returned they would protect her
They quickly responded “our life for yours”
And they reported what they had endured
Rahab’s faithfulness in protecting the spies
Is to this day in God’s “Book of Life”
The country of Canaan was filled with Idolatry
But God’s power would be with Abraham’s followers
And in due time God’s promise would be done
And the “Promised Land” would be their home
Crossing Jordan their long journey is ending
Now to get on involved in their “new beginnings”
The land and the areas were to be divided
The inheritance for each tribe to be decided
Reuben was given land the other side ofthe river
For the raising of cattle he thought it was better
But he helped his brethren to get settled
And then returned to put his together
As expected there was trouble without and within
There were those within that were tempted to sin
Israel felt as a people being uninvited
The Canaanites fearful but united
The Kings ofthe area challenged with their armies
Again God’s power against themaand did not succeed
With Joshua leading Israel continued their conquest
And was able, with God’s help, return with success
In time the whole land was subdued
The Kings conquered made a list that was huge
Surveying and dividing the land was an ongoing task
With God’s help and patience it would be done at last
Joshua now 110 yrs of age was stricken with old age
He called all the Leaders together for what he had to say
In simple terms he reviewed the history they had earned
Urging them to obey God who had held up their arms
Joshua “the Lord’s servant” at 110 years passed from this life
And was buried on the hillside of Mt. Gaash
The bones of Joseph was buried in his family’s place
Aaron’s son, Eleazer, was buried in his own space
Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua
And all the days ofthe Elders following his day
True to the work they leamed from the Lord
Leaving lessons for us preserved in His word
