Matthew Chapter  One

Matthew wrote about Christ for his fellow Jews
Citing prophecies learned at home and in school
That Jesus was the Savior to meet their needs
The “Messiah” that was from Abraham’s seed.

Matthew relates the facts in storybook form
From His genealogy to how He was born
Not that (the facts) they would be easily believed
But facts are facts and are to be received.

The birth of Jesus came about in this way.
Mary, the pregnant and only engaged
Joseph being just didn’t want Mary to be cited,
Decided to break the engagement in private.

But an angel appeared to him in a dream
And explained that it was not as it seemed.
Mary had conceived by the Holy Ghost
Even as the Prophet had spoke.

Joseph awaked, his eyes no doubt wide,
And readily took Mary to be his bride.
When she gave birth to her first-born son
By the name “Jesus” he was to be known.
